Platformization in the Cultural Sector: Impact on Institutions and Cultural Education

Leo Cao, a former CAIS Fellow, has published the results of his fellowship on the development of Google Arts & Culture in the “Convergence Journal,” demonstrating how the platform has evolved in its approach to cultural heritage through convergence, playful and AI-supported offerings, and the changing roles of cultural institutions.

Smart as a City: Insights into the Implementation of Smart City Projects in Kansas City

The new book by former CAIS Fellow Burcu Baykurt will be published shortly. In it, she examines how smart cities emerge, how technologies are tested in cities, and how cities and technology companies collaborate in this process.

News Audiences’ Acceptance of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Journalism: A Use Case Study Across Three Domains

T.J. Thomson, former CAIS fellow, conducted research during his time at CAIS on “generative visual artificial intelligence (AI) in news: audience perceptions and newsroom guidelines.” The findings from his fellowship have now been published.

Generating the Language of AI Harms: Mapping Guardrails Using Critical Code Studies

Dr. Sarah Ciston, former CAIS Fellow, has published an article in the journal AI & Society. In it, she analyzes the safety and filtering mechanisms (“guardrails”) of large language models as both technical and ideological mechanisms.

Sebastian Gießmann publishes “The Credit Card Book”

Sebastian Gießmann, former CAIS Fellow, conducted research on the history and theory of digital payment during his time at CAIS. His book “The Credit Card Book: History and Theory of Digital Payment” has now been published.
