From 4 to 7 June, 2026 Dr. Tetiana Gorokhova took part in the World Symposium on Sustainability Governance, hosted by the University of Salamanca (Spain) and organised together with HAW Hamburg and GECOS. There, she presented the paper “Does Crisis Shape How Universities Govern AI?”.
The study argues that crises do not prevent universities from adopting AI, but they do slow their capacity to govern it. Faculty members use AI tools across all three countries, while institutional governance measures such as AI guidelines, ethical frameworks, data protection policies, and training lag behind. This gap becomes especially pronounced during times of crisis.
The presentation connects the work of CAIS researcher Dr. Tetiana Gorokhova on AI readiness in higher education with the broader question of how institutions maintain effective governance in unstable environments. The symposium was hosted by the University of Salamanca in Spain and organized in collaboration with HAW Hamburg and GECOS.
